ACADEMY PLAYERS

Bobbie White

Position: RB

White has played at Chesterfield since the age of seven. Joining the academy from U7 to U12 when Chesterfield were relegated to the National League.

White stayed with the club and is now back in the academy set up at U18 level.

Shay Buxton

Position: GK

Buxton had previously been at Doncaster Rovers from age ten for six years before moving to the CFA for the start of the 2023/24 season.

Tom Pawson

Position: ST

Pawson has previously been at Barnsley FC and played there for four years from the age of 12, up to 16, before joining the Chesterfield Academy in the summer of 2023 following trials at other clubs such as Bradford City.

Ethan Weaver

Position: CB

Weaver joined York City FC at U15 level and later that season joined Doncaster Rovers FC, where he spent the rest of that season and the majority of his U16s year before joining the Chesterfield Academy in the summer of 2023.

Has also been on a dual registration basis with Glasshoughton Welfare and Ilkley Town this season.

Enoch Popoola

Position(s): RW, CDM, LB

Popoola spent a year at Shrewsbury at U16 level and is now at U18 level with Chesterfield, whom he joined in September 2023.

Louie Ward

Position: CM

In 2018, Ward joined Notts County’s academy, where he spent five years before joining Chesterfield’s Academy in 2023.

Liam Tibbett

Position: RB

Tibbett signed with Hull City’s academy at U14 level, where he spent two seasons before joining Chesterfield’s Academy in September 2024.

Oliver Bointon

Position: CB

Bointon started off at Sheffield United at the age of six, all the way up until the age of 16, where he was released, before the defender then joined the Spireites in 2023 close season.

Barnaby Smith

Position: RB

Smith began at Sheffield Wednesday’s academy where he spent nine years, beginning at U7, before joining Chesterfield’s U17 team in January 2023.

Skylar Gill

Position: CAM

At age 13, Gill joined Lincoln City where he spent three years before trialling at Nottingham Forest, Aston Villa and Coventry City.

Gill took part in exit trials where he was picked up by Chesterfield, aged 16 in 2023 close season, and now he is a part of the U18 team.

Theo Wainman

Position: LB

Wainman joined Sheffield Wednesday at U9 level for two seasons before spending two more seasons playing grassroots football.

His next step was joining Sheffield United from U12 to U16 before joining the Spireites in the Summer of 2023.

Tom Everest Wilcock

Position: GK

Everest Wilcock has previously been at Barnsley FC at U15 for 18 months, but an ACL injury meant that after leaving Barnsley that he could not trial at clubs.

Jack Brassey

Position: RW

Chesterfield is Brassey’s first club after playing grassroots football his whole life until signing with the Spireites.

He joined the club’s development team at age 12 and has progressed into the academy set up and now plays for the U18 team.

Alex Whitney

Position: CB

Newcastle-born Whitney started off playing for Sunderland’s academy from U11 for six months before spending four years at Middlesbrough up until U16 level where he suffered a leg-break in training which kept him out for nine months.

Whitney’s injury meant him leaving Middlesborough and now he is a first-year scholar at Chesterfield who moved to Derbyshire this summer.

The defender has enjoyed the transition of the CFA Scholarship, helping around the club and continuing his education whilst playing football.

Marcus McKernan

Position: CM

McKernan joined Sheffield United, the club he supports, at the age of ten and stayed for four years and left to join Barnsley where he spent two years in pursuit of more game time before joining Chesterfield at the age of 16.

McKernan is a first-year scholar of the CFA, finding the experience enjoyable of being in education and helping out around the club whilst playing for the U18 team.

Josh Hague

Position: CM

Hague began playing for Sheffield United at a young age before moving to Sheffield Wednesday where he spent seven years from age seven to 13, the club that his family support.

The next progression for Hague was to move to Mansfield shortly after leaving Sheffield Wednesday, joining at U14 level, and left in December of 2023.

Hague believes that playing football from so young gave him the drive to carry on after being let go from Sheffield Wednesday after many years at the Owls.

The midfielder is now a first-year scholar at Chesterfield.

Fin Shone

Position: CB

Shone began at Barnsley at the age of 13 until he was 14 before joining Doncaster Rovers for one season after a successful trial.

When it came to scholar decisions, Shone left Doncaster Rovers to join Chesterfield.

Bailey Wright

Position: LW

Wright began his career playing Chesterfield at U11s before joining Doncaster Rovers at U12s to the end of U13. Wright trialled at Hull City for a week which ended up with the attacker being signed up.

A broken leg, which side-lined Wright for four months, meant that he was not given a scholarship at Hull City which resulted in him leaving the club and re-joining Chesterfield, now as a first-year scholar.

Ethan Hardy

Position: CB

At age 14, Hardy trialled at Nottingham Forest but was not signed before being contacted by Mansfield Town where Hardy joined at U15 level for just under a year.

Hardy then joined Chesterfield after a successful trial and is now a first-year scholar.

Lewis Reah

Position: CM

Reah signed for his first academy at U15 level with Mansfield Town before being released from the club. The next step for Reah was returning to grassroots football where he played against Chesterfield for Shirebrook Town which secured him a trial at the club. 

Will Pucci

Position: LW

Pucci joined Sheffield United at the age of 11, where he spent five years before joining Chesterfield in 2023 where he is now a second-year player.

Gunner Elliott

Position: ST

Elliott joined the Spireites this summer as his first professional club after previously playing for Buxton and Macclesfield’s youth teams and Derbyshire schoolboys.

Elliott is a Malta international at youth level having been selected for the U17 squad in October 2023, where he became the first Chesterfield player to face an England national team at youth level.

Stewart Johns

Position: CM

After arriving from American side Spire FC in the Summer, the Michigan-born youngster has linked up the with Young Spireites over the last few months.

Kaden Scott

Position: LB

After impressing academy manager Neil Cluxton, Kaden Scott joined Chesterfield from Grantham Town FC.
