Weekly academy round-up

With so many academy games happening during the week, it can be difficult to keep track of how well the teams are doing.

This article provides an easy rundown of the results for you to follow and keep track of all the Chesterfield teams.

Sadly, the list of games is a lot shorter this week, with Storm Eunice having other ideas. Only a handful of games were played, and all battled against the conditions to bring back a result.

U10s

Chesterfield U10s battled against Keyworth in a friendly game, fighting off the weather as well as tough opposition.

Despite the horrible conditions, the young Spireites performed well and played some great football.

U16s

Chesterfield U16s travelled to Solihull FC for their JPL Cup match-up, taking home a 6-0 win.

Braces from Baugh and Schofield ripped the tie from Solihull’s grip, with Eratt-Thompson and Hinds getting in on the goalscoring action.

U21s

Chesterfield U21s battled the windy conditions to complete a fantastic 5-1 victory over Eastwood CFC.

The young Spireites took full advantage in the first half of the wind in their favour, taking the lead after 16 minutes through Collier. Fuertado drew the keeper out before sliding the ball across the box for the striker to poke home.

Shortly after Robinson tried his luck from 40 yards, the defender got his goal. A smart, low-driven free-kick from Bradbury found Robinson six yards out, who calmy slid the ball under the on-rushing goalkeeper.

With half-time closing in, Chesterfield scored two in two minutes to put the tie out of Eastwood’s reach. Fuertado rocketed in from the edge of the box before O’Connor fired in a rebound, with Collier being denied by the keeper in a one-on-one.

Eastwood were given hope when the referee judged Preston to have brought down their striker in the box and obliged from the spot to make it 4-1.

Wood sealed the win in style, coming off the bench to bury Chesterfield’s fifth with only three minutes left on the clock.

Girls Futsal

A massive congratulations to our newly founded girls futsal team, playing their first game this week.

The young Spireites managed to bring home a convincing 5-1 win against Hasland at Queen’s Park.

Hopefully, a sign of things to come!
