Chesterfield FC Women are looking forward to a cup tie this weekend after suffering a narrow 1-0 defeat last weekend at the hands of Grimsby Town.
Manager Andrea Parkinson reflected on her side’s defeat, saying: “To be honest, I think if the game ended 0-0, then both managers would have shaken hands and walked away with a point. There wasn’t a lot in the game really.
“They had one chance and took it. We made a change with a player coming off injured and that kind of disturbed things a little bit and we conceded not long after that.
“I think if things were settled and changes weren’t needed to be made, it would have been 0-0.
“We’re creating goal scoring opportunities but just can’t find the back of the net with the ball unfortunately.
“Sunday was kind of an anti-climax because players were buzzing that they got the opportunity to play at Blundell Park, but obviously coming away with a defeat wasn’t so great.
“I think we adapted to how they play and I said to the players at full time that we’ve got our game plan, we know how we can play and we’ve just got to be consistent with that for 90 minutes.
“We need a win and we need to keep that momentum but we seem to win one, lose one then draw one, so the consistency isn’t there yet.
“It’s inevitable that there will be a game where we win comfortably and hopefully that’ll help us kick on.”
Andrea then looked forward to the County Cup fixture this weekend, as the women take on Derby County U21s:
She said: “They won the Derbyshire Cup last season and we played them in the semi-final, but obviously U21 level players come and go all the time, so their squad might look a little bit different to last year.
“They’ve not lost a game this season. They are established, but we only lost 1-0 last year, so hopefully we can go and give them a good game.
“I think they’ll stick to their game plan; we’ve just got to go and be consistent, play how we know we can play with the ball on the floor, passing in triangles.
“If anyone is free, please come and support.”
If you are able to, please consider supporting the women’s team, with the fixture taking place at Derby County’s training ground at 3pm on Sunday.
