First summer signing announced

The Spireites have agreed their first signing of the summer with full-back Branden Horton set to join on July 1.

Subject to National League and FA approval, the 21-year-old will become a Chesterfield player following the expiry of his contract at Doncaster Rovers.

Horton said: “I’m happy to be at the club and I’m excited to get started.

“I’ve been shopping around a few clubs and it’s a massive club with big expectations.

“Hopefully I can do well, bring something to the team and we can achieve what we want to at the club and take them up.

“I’m an attacking full-back, I like to get forward. I like to assist and score goals. I like to do the defending side as well.”

Horton made 20 appearances for Doncaster in League One last season and also popped up with three goals in all competitions, impressing fans at the Eco-Power Stadium.

He spent five years with the South Yorkshire club and had two loan spells with Gainsborough Trinity in the Northern Premier League between 2018 and 2019.
