Assistant-manager Danny Webb spoke with the media ahead of Tuesday night’s National League clash with Altrincham and he began by complimenting the young lads who played in Saturday’s FA Trophy fixture.
He said: “The lads left everything out on the pitch. I literally don’t think they could’ve given any more.
“We had a few 16-year-olds out there and that was a bit of a wake-up call for some of those lads. It will benefit them going forwards and they’ll grasp how good players are at that level.
“Whether their futures are with us or with someone else, I hope that game helps aid their careers and they use the experience to benefit them.
“The lads tried their best; they kept going and gave it everything. We wanted to win the game obviously but all our focus is now on the league and we’ll be fully focusing on getting promotion.
Webb also gave an update on the fitness of the squad. “Ryan Colclough is out for at least a few weeks,” he said.
“We had positive news after the game that there was no break or fracture. However, his ankle is still very swollen and he will certainly not be involved within the next few games.
“It’s a bad injury but I’d like to think he’ll be back in a few weeks. We know what Ryan can bring but we also have several players that can fill the boots. He’s going to be a miss, no doubt, but we’ll get through it.
“Freckleton is also out for a couple of weeks with his hamstring, so that’s a bit of a blow too but we’ve got to be careful with that.
“Everyone else is doing okay, Ty (Williams) is back fully fit now too, which is very positive.
“Grimes is back too, so hopefully that’s the last time we lose a player through suspension this season.”
Finally, Webb gave an insight on the opponents. He said: “Without doubt Altrincham are a very strong side in this division.
“The management team over there have done a fantastic job, they deserve a lot of credit.
“It’s going to be a good game of football and two teams that play similar ways so it’s going to be a cracker.
“They have plenty of threats and we’ll have to deal with them if we want anything out of the game.
“We’ll focus on ourselves and be going for the win, no doubt.”
