Narrow defeat for women’s team

Chesterfield FC Women lost 2-1 against Sheffield United Community Foundation the SMH Group Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

A dominant start to the match for the Spireites saw them go close on numerous occasions as they time and time again split open the opposition defence.

In the 23rd minute Lexie Butterworth ran down the left flank and efficiently slotted her effort into the bottom corner, giving Chesterfield a well-deserved lead.

The immediate aftermath of the goal was no different to the start of the match as the Blades, seemingly unable to keep up with the pace of the Chesterfield front line,

The half-time whistle would have come as a blessing to the United players.

The second half saw an early goal for the visitors as the Blades came out fighting.

Six minutes later, the away side doubled their tally and turned the game on its head.

The Blades, who looked shaky on the ball in the first half, now looked a lot more comfortable.

The Spireites were unable to force an equaliser in the closing stages of the game.

This result leaves Chesterfield seventh in the table, level on points with York City Ladies on 23.

The Spireites will now be looking to bounce back in their next match against York Railway Institute Ladies.

With two games remaining, Chesterfield will be hoping to end the season on a high.
