A youthful Spireites side went out of the Isuzu FA Trophy on Tuesday night after losing 3-1 at home to Coalville Town.
A consolation goal from George Wilkinson was the Chesterfield’s only goal of the game.
The Spireites’ first chance of the game came nine minutes in when the ball was chipped inside the box, finding Alexander Duhameau, whose attempt went over the bar.
Coalville took the lead in the 11th minute. The ball was fizzed across the penalty area, finding Ashley Chambers at the back post, who tapped the ball in.
Chambers had another opportunity soon after scoring when he drove down the right-hand side and got a shot away. Lucas Covolan made a good save.
The Spireites equalised in the 18th minute with a header from Wilkinson, following a wide free kick. His header found the bottom right corner.
Coalville regained the lead in the 22nd minute when the ball fell to Tom McGlinchey inside the penalty area and he slotted the ball past Covolan from close range.
The Spireites went into half time trailing 2-1.
Ollie Banks came close for the Spireites with a strike from around 20 yards out, but his attempt went wide of the target.
Chambers doubled Coalville’s lead when the ball fell to him inside the box and his deflected shot found its way past Covolan.
Once again, Chambers came close for Coalville, with a low driven shot at Covolan’s near post, the keeper managing to parry the ball out for a corner.
Attention will now turn to the Spireites’ Boxing Day fixture, away at Scunthorpe United in the National League.
