Spireites secure title!

After six long seasons, the Spireites finally gained promotion from the National League, as league champions, with an emphatic 3-0 win over Boreham Wood at the SMH Group Stadium.

Captain Jamie Grimes scored twice with Liam Mandeville also on target.

Paul Cook made six changes from the side that lost to Halifax, with Jeff King, Ash Palmer, Branden Horton, Mike Jones, Michael Jacobs, and Joe Quigley coming into the starting XI.

Jacobs had the Spireites’ first big chance of the game when he cut inside from the left and tried to beat Nathan Ashmore at his near post, but his effort was saved.

Tom Whelan forced a fantastic save from Harry Tyrer, diving to his right, following a powerful free-kick from around 30 yards out.

The Spireites took the lead in the 28th minute through Grimes. Mandeville whipped in a corner from the left-hand side, Grimes connected with it at the front post and his bullet header hit the back of the net.

The Spireites went into half-time with a 1-0 lead.

Mandeville doubled the Spireites’ lead in the 46th minute. Armando Dobra got the ball to the by-line and pulled the ball back to Mandeville whose first-time effort was too quick for Ashmore to deal with.

As the second half progressed, the Spireites continued to control the game, recycling possession well and keeping pressure on Boreham Wood.

It was 3-0 in the 67th minute. Dobra won the ball high up, drove into the box from the left-hand side and his ball across the six-yard box was tapped in by Grimes. The goal was the Spireites’ 100th league goal of the season.

The final whistle sparked celebrations as a return to the EFL was finally sealed.
