Jeff King provided his assessment after his goal helped the Spireites record an emphatic 4-1 win over Barnet at The Hive London.
The Spireites picked up their 13th win of the season to move within a point of leaders FC Halifax Town, with two games in hand.
King said: “I think it was a good performance – the lads’ intensity was really good. Last week was a great day out for everyone involved at the club and it was important that we came here and created our own atmosphere and I think we did that. We deserved the win.”
King scored the fourth goal of the match, with a wonder free-kick from 35 yards out.
“Everywhere I’ve been I’ve took free kicks and with (Danny) Rowe not in the team I just took my chance and put my name forward,” said King.
“Luckily enough they’ve been doing quite well, and it went in today. I saw it was late on in the game and I just thought it was an opportunity to have a shot, so I did.
“I think it nicked off the top of someone’s head, but I don’t think it changed anything. I think it was going in anyway.”
The right wing-back looked ahead to Maidenhead on Tuesday night and commented on how important the travelling fans could be: “Going away from home we’re not going to be playing in front of 6,000 like we are at our own home ground.
“We need to create our own atmosphere and bring a good following; we need the fans to keep coming if they can.
“We know it’s hard on a Tuesday night to get down there, but it doesn’t half help us, and we need it.”
