The Spireites welcome Altrincham to the Technique Stadium on Tuesday night and manager James Rowe outlined what he expects from Phil Parkinson’s team.

Speaking to the media, he said: “I’m sure they’ll come and try to influence the game their way because they’ve got a clear way of playing, but so have we.

“It was a positive result for them on the back of their disappointment in the FA Cup. It’s a good bounce back from them and shows character in their squad.

“We need to play with our DNA the best we can. It’s going to be a tough evening – no doubts about that, but one we can overcome, I’m sure.

“It’s going to take an almighty effort against a really technical team with a good manager to overcome the opponent tomorrow.”

Alex Whittle has put in some fine performances over the past month, capping it off with his first goal of the season against Solihull Moors.

Rowe has been impressed with the wing-back and believes that there is some fierce competition for those places.

He said: “We want performances like that, and the players want to force my hand, despite the camaraderie and togetherness. They all want to play in those big games when they come up – starting from tomorrow.

“It’s a reward for his patience and dedication because he picked up an injury in pre-season. Calvin [Miller] took the shirt and has done really well.

“There’s great competition now for that place, but both can play on the other side as well. They’ve got the intelligence to do it.”

A total of 919 Chesterfield fans travelled to Solihull Moors at the weekend and Rowe is hoping that the fantastic support can continue against Altrincham.

Rowe said: “They were a credit to the club. They were excellently behaved first and foremost. They supported their team respectfully.

“They were so loud; I heard them from the first minute until the last. Incredible support and it’s a marker for what we have achieved as a club in the last 12 months.

“We’ve got to pull together. We need to get supporters in again and make it as loud as possible and as hostile as possible.”
