Assistant-manager Danny Webb praised the team’s fitness and desire during Saturday’s 1-0 win over Aldershot Town at the Technique Stadium.
After Liam Mandeville scored the only goal of the game to give the Spireites all three points, Webb said: “I think wether it was a one-nil or a six-nil, it was important that we got the three points just to get that first win.
“Obviously the crowd were fantastic, the weather was hot, too hot. I think everyone can be pleased with the teams’ efforts, both teams, I think Aldershot gave it a right go as well. And it just tees-up Tuesday night perfectly for us.
“The boys were so fit, maybe the fittest group I have seen since I have been coaching. The desire and strength of character in those last ten minutes when the heat and the tiredness is getting to you, to see that one-nil win just sums up the group at the moment.
“I think we created things, I think we looked good from set-pieces. I think we defended things well, but we can’t forget that there is still loads to improve on.”
