Spireites assistant manager Danny Webb praised the team’s effort during a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Altrincham at the Technique Stadium.
The Spireites found the breakthrough in the 88th minute when Ash Palmer drilled a sublime header into the bottom corner, following a corner from Jeff King.
Webb said: “We got the three points in the end. We would have loved to have entertained the fans and have everyone off their seats for the whole game.
“Post-Christmas is a time where it’s win at all costs. And sometimes you just need to win at all costs and be scrappy and fair play, it’s a set-play that we’ve worked on.
“For large periods it obviously was frustrating. There were certain decisions where we passed when we should have shot and shot when we should have passed.
“Fair play to the team for sticking with it. Yes there were mistakes here and there, but the boys stuck with it and that does eventually get you what you deserve, and that was the three points tonight.
“We know that there’s things to take away from this game that we can do better but it certainly wasn’t through a lack of effort.”
