Webb provides fitness update ahead of Derby match

Danny Webb provided an update on the fitness of the squad whilst also previewing tonight’s pre-season clash with Derby County.

He began by revealing an injury update on Paddy Madden, saying: “Unfortunately, the diagnosis right now with Paddy is that it’s not good; it’s not something we’re very optimistic about and he’ll certainly be out for more than just a few days.

“It’s a real shame. We’re waiting on scan results to know anymore. However, he’s not feeling so positive about it and it’s very swelled.

“It’s obviously a big blow losing him for now because he’s a quality player that we brought in to make an impact, and I’m sure that will still happen but unfortunately it doesn’t look like it will be right at this moment.

“We’ll keep our fingers crossed it’s not as bad as it seems but, whatever happens, we all know he’s a strong character that will bounce back and work hard to be back as quick as he can.”

Webb also gave an insight on the injuries affecting some other members of the squad.

He said: “Ryheem’s [Sheckleford] injury isn’t looking too good either. We’ll have to wait and see about that.

“Thankfully, Lewis [Gordon] is looking okay as we speak and we’re not too worried about him.

“Whilst Ash [Palmer] took a big bang on the knee, so we need to manage that and see how that is.

“We obviously didn’t want this many injuries but that’s football and it can happen.

“We have a good squad and this is why. The lads we have available are more than good enough and we’ll ensure we keep working hard.”

Looking ahead to the game against Derby County, Webb commented: “I think the objective will be the same as the other games, to try things, work on some different stuff and try to get the lads even fitter, whilst also looking for a win.

“We are coming up against quality opposition again and we’ll need to be on it.

“It’s another tough game that we want to perform in. The lads are in good spirits and so are we as staff; we’re ready for it.”
