Spireites academy prospect Gunner Elliott has received another call-up to the Malta U17s international squad.
The 16-year-old will travel to Milan as he is set to face two Italian youth sides in friendlies over the coming days.
The two games will be against Sampdoria U17s, tomorrow night, and Spezia U17s, on Monday.
These friendlies are in preparation for Malta U17s’ European Under-17 Championship qualifiers in April, where they will face Bulgaria U17s, Luxembourg U17s and Faroe Islands U17s, in Group E.
Elliott is the only player in the named 22-man squad that plays for an overseas team.
Justin Tellus, Chesterfield’s head of academy recruitment, commented: “It is a great opportunity for Gunner to link up with Malta U17s national team for their training camp in Genoa.
“They are coming up against two very experienced youth teams which will put them in good stead ahead of their qualifying games in April. We are looking forward to seeing Gunner progress and develop in international football.”
Since his last international call-up, Elliott has made his senior debut for the Spireites in EFL League Two.
The striker came off the bench in the Boxing Day fixture away at Fleetwood Town, replacing Kane Drummond in the 84th minute.
Elliott also made the bench for the next game, against Bradford City at Valley Parade.
