Defender Jamie Grimes believes that the Spireites are preparing to face one of the league’s best teams when they meet Boreham Wood at Meadow Park on Saturday evening.
Speaking to the media, he said: “They’re a good team. You don’t concede that little goals and not be strong defensively. Obviously, they score goals as well.
“They’re one of the best teams in this league and you can see that by their performances. They’re very resilient and get a lot of clean sheets.
“You look at the league and you see how many games they’ve got in hand and our position. It’s a crucial game.
“We’ve got to go and believe we are going to score. We’ve got to also believe in ourselves to keep the clean sheet at their place. Hopefully we can go there and get the win.”
The race for promotion to the Football League is wide open at the moment with many teams fighting for that one automatic promotion spot.
Grimes says that the league is increasing in quality each year and thinks that whoever does go up can use the momentum to repeat the feat the next year.
“I’ve played in League Two and this level; I don’t think there is much difference,” Grimes said. “In terms of quality of players as well, it seems to be getting better every year.
“It makes it tougher and tougher to get out of this league. If you’re good enough to get out of this league, especially this one, you’ve got every chance to go and do it again.
“It is so competitive. Everyone seems to be beating everyone. It’s only in recent times that Wrexham and Stockport have really put a run together. It’s all to play for.”
Chesterfield have suffered a lot of setbacks this year, especially on the injury front. However, Grimes has praised the reaction of the dressing room and their ability to bounce back from adversity.
He said: “Every time we have a little adversity, I’m amazed by the lads’ reaction. It’s such a good dressing room and they’ve got such a great spirit.
“This adversity that we have had will help if we do get bad times in games. We know how to deal with it.”
