Match preview: Tranmere Rovers (a)

Stadium

The Spireites bring an end to October with a trip to Merseyside to take on Tranmere Rovers at Prenton Park.

Paul Cook’s side are unbeaten in their last three after the defeat to Colchester United at the start of the month.

On the other hand, Tranmere are coming off the back of an impressive 4-1 away win against Bristol Rovers last Saturday.

In the Spotlight

Omari Patrick has continued last season’s good form and taken into the 2025/26 campaign.

He not only leads the club’s goalscoring charts with six goals to his name, but he also leads the assist charts with four.

He had a scintillating five game run in August and early September which saw him score in each match and notch a couple of assists to his name.

A tricky player to play against, Patrick can operate on the left, on the right and also through the middle as an attacking midfielder or a striker.

The gaffer’s record

Paul Cook has only come up against Tranmere Rovers just the three times during his managerial career.

He has just the one win over the Merseyside based outfit – a 3-0 win at the SMH Group Stadium last season.

The other two meetings ended in defeat for the Spireites, with both fixtures being played at Prenton Park.

Man in the middle

Scott Oldham is the referee for Chesterfield’s fixture at Tranmere Rovers – the fourth time he will be in the man in the middle with the Spireites involved.

The other three games saw a win, a draw and a defeat. The win came against Leyton Orient in the FA Cup back in December 2023.

Overall, the official has taken charge 371 games, handing out 960 yellow cards, 31 red cards and has given 71 penalties.

Kieron Dyer’s thoughts

“We’ve obviously looked at the game we played there last season because we were on a hell of a run, and that result came out of nowhere.

“We know their threats; they’re going to come out aggressively but we’re looking forward to it because the players want to show a reaction for an away performance and we want to see a reaction from them as well.”
