“They’ll come here with nothing to fear”

Striker Tom Denton believes that already relegated Dover Athletic will come to the Technique Stadium with “nothing to fear” on Saturday.

Speaking to the media, he said: “They’ll come with no pressure on themselves. It’s one of those that everyone expects us to win, and they can be the tough games.

“We’ll need a bit of patience. I’ve seen their last few results, especially away from home. They went to Wrexham and scored five; they beat Boreham Wood.

“They’ll come here with nothing to fear and obviously their players are trying to impress for next season as well. It’ll be a tough game but hopefully we can get an early goal.

“We’ve had a good couple of training sessions this week and we are right up for it. We’ve got to be at it from the start tomorrow and hopefully we can get the three points.”

The forward has struggled with tough injuries over the past 16 months, but he is delighted to be back and hopes he can help with the Spireites’ promotion push.

Denton said: “I’m just delighted to be back in it with five or six games to go now. It’s great to be back. It’s been a good year out and I’ve seen some good times and some bad times.

“It’s good to be back in the mix with promotion up for grabs. It would be nice to get a couple of goals before the end of the season and sign-off in style.”

As the season draws to a close, Chesterfield’s path back to the EFL will have to go through the play-offs and Denton gave his assessment of the race.

“We’ve just got to take each game as it comes now,” he said. “We’ve got to win tomorrow and if we do win tomorrow, we give ourselves a great chance.

“I’ve had a look at the table and if we can get two more wins, I think we’ll be pretty much in there. But we want to finish as high as we can so hopefully, we can get a home game.”
