Chesterfield had to settle for a point with a 0-0 draw at home to Aldershot Town at the Technique Stadium.
The Spireites now sit top of the National League table with a game in hand.
The first attempt came nine minutes into the first half when a cross from Laurence Maguire found new signing Joe Quigley in the box. However, his header missed the target.
Akwasi Asante went close on the 12-minute mark. The ball found Asante in the box from a corner, but his effort was blocked by an Aldershot defender.
Aldershot put the Spireites under pressure in the first 25 minutes of the game, regularly breaking away.
When the ball found Asante again from a corner kick, his glanced header was blocked and put behind for another corner.
Quigley tried his luck from range towards the end of the half, firing the ball down to Mitch Walker’s left-hand side. The strike did not trouble the Aldershot keeper.
Chesterfield came close with the last action of the half with a header from Quigley that went just over the bar.
The teams went into half time level with the score 0-0. Neither team created any real high-quality chances in the first 45 minutes.
The Spireites’ first shot of the second half came from a spectacular effort from Tyrone Williams, who volleyed the ball over from 25 yards out, stinging the gloves of the Aldershot keeper.
Quigley again found himself in a shooting position after driving into the box from the right-hand side. He shot to the Walker’s near post, however the keeper parried it behind for a corner.
Maguire managed to get his head on the subsequent corner, forcing a comfortable save from Walker.
Jeff King picked up a yellow card in the 64th minute meaning he will miss next weekend’s trip to Eastleigh.
Saidou Khan grazed the top of the bar with a speculative attempt from around 30 yards out just after the 70-minute mark.
The Spireites pushed for a winner in the final ten minutes, keeping Aldershot under sustained pressure, however they could not find a winner.
James Rowe’s men had to settle for a draw and will now look ahead to the trip to Eastleigh.
