The club’s academy scholars are playing an active role in supporting the local community by helping deliver weekly Little League sessions for young players at Shirebrook.
The scholars have been involved every Monday evening for the past six weeks, supporting the coaching of around 50 boys aged six and seven as they develop their football skills in a fun and enjoyable environment.
Their involvement sees the scholars help organise and support the young teams, providing encouragement while helping introduce children to football and sport.
Head of academy recruitment Justin Tellus said: “The initiative is an important opportunity for the scholars to give something back to the local community.
“They support with the coaching, they take the teams and they give back to the community by proving the opportunity for local kids to get into football and into sport.”
The community engagement forms part of the scholars’ wider development away from the pitch, giving them the chance to take on responsibility and make a positive contribution locally.
