Alex Whitney signs first professional contract

Alex Whitney has signed a one-year contract with the club, following in the footsteps of youth-side teammate Gunner Elliott as he signs his first professional contract with the club after impressing over his two-year spell as a scholar.

The defender has spent large spells of his time at the club so far captaining the young Spireites for their first two seasons back in the EFL’s Youth Alliance League system, before stepping up into the first team environment last season and making his senior debut in the Vertu Trophy game against Crewe Alexandra at the Mornflake Stadium.

Expressing his gratitude upon signing the deal, Whitney said: “I’m grateful to all of the staff, family and friends who have helped me to take this next step in my career.

“Being in the first-team environment last season really challenged and pushed me as a player and a person, and I’m looking forward to pushing on even more this season.

“A big thank you to Neil Cluxton, Justin Tellus and Haydn Hollis, as well as my host family, for making the transition as smooth as possible.”
