‘Bruno’ reflects on time spent with Chesterfield

Ex-Spireites forward Andy Morris, also known as ‘Bruno’ by Spireites fans, has reflected on the time he spent at Chesterfield for the majority of his playing days.

Morris said: “It’s lovely to be back. I’ve always had good memories here, and it’s always nice to come back and see a few familiar faces, and obviously the ground has changed quite a lot since I was here. But it always feels like home every time I come back.

When questioned about his standout memories and moments, Morris commented: “I suppose the play-off game against Mansfield, Forest in the fifth round and then the quarter-final against Wrexham are some of my best memories.”

Speaking about the Spireites’ recent success, Morris explained: “It’s always nice to see the club doing well. Going back to any old club, it’s nice to see them doing well instead of languishing in the conference.

“They’re doing really well at the moment and they’re consolidating, being in League Two, and hopefully, touch wood, they’ll get that play-off spot and then get up into League One.”

“When I was here, we were lucky to get 3,000 (fans) up at Saltergate. There are new fans, a lovely club and massive crowds, so you can’t complain on any of those grounds.”

Morris’ 1992/93 and 1996/97 shirts are on display in the tunnel at the SMH Group Stadium. Commenting on this, Morris said: “It was nice to see. I don’t know if the current players will actually look at those names that are actually on there! But, it was a lovely, pleasant surprise to see that.”

Morris was recently at the SMH Group Stadium to model retro shirts from the early 90s. A limited stock remains available online or in the Club Superstore.
