Coach praises for youngster following international call-up

Academy coach Haydn Hollis is delighted that Gunner Elliott has received a Malta U17s call-up for games against two Italian youth sides in friendlies over the coming days.

The young Spireite is in the squad for games against Sampdoria U17s this evening and Spezia U17s on Monday.

Hollis said: “I’m delighted for Gunner to get his chance again with the Malta U17s. I think he could be a real asset to them.

“I think he has improved since his last call-up with them and I think he will keep improving and developing.

“He has lots and lots still to learn and work on but he is going in the right direction and hopefully I can help his game even more by developing him. It’s great for him and the academy that he gets this opportunity.

“He obviously has been doing well in recent weeks to get another call-up.”

Hollis outlined the attributes that Elliott has, saying: “He has a fantastic attitude and is a pleasure to be around every day and his work rate and attitude will take him a very long way, on top of what ability he has.

“He has shown what he is capable of in such a short space of time and even made his debut so he is certainly going in the right direction.”
