Luca Vergari bagged a hat-trick as the U18s earned a 4-2 comeback victory over Accrington Stanley.
After the visitors went 2-0 up early on, Vergari scored three times before Marcus McKernan added a fourth for the young Spireites.
Accrington opened the scoring after two minutes, capitalising on a missed header in the Chesterfield defence and volleying home impressively.
The visitors made it two inside eight minutes when the Spireites failed to clear from a corner, leaving Stanley’s midfielder space to volley into the bottom left corner.
Haydn Hollis’ side pulled one back after 25 minutes. Vergari capitalised on a defensive error and slotted past the Stanley keeper to halve the deficit.
The visitors had another chance from a corner in the 37th minute, but Tom Everest Wilcock denied at the near post.
Vergari thought he’d equalised four minutes into second half stoppage time when Chris Kondolo slipped him through on goal, but his effort hit the inside of the post and landed into the grateful arms of the keeper.
Will Pucci almost made an instant impact from the bench when Vergari’s flick on sent him in on goal, but he struck straight at the keeper.
Vergari got his second a minute later, slotting right of the keeper from the left of the box to level the arrears.
The Spireites thought they’d taken the lead on the hour-mark when Jack Brassey was slotted through and finished into the bottom left, but the linesman had his flag raised for offside.
Vergari got his hat-trick in the 65th minute, finishing from inside the box to complete the comeback.
The game was put to bed with five minutes to go when McKernan pounced on a spillage by the keeper to add a fourth for his side.
