Comprehensive away win for women’s team

After a break in the fixture schedule, Chesterfield FC Women returned to action in style, winning 7-0 at Ripon City.

The Spireites started the game on the front foot and scored three goals in the opening 15 minutes with Foster (2) and Butterworth on target. The goals came following some fantastic football and through balls.

There was a period in the first half where Ripon’s keeper made some great saves to keep the score at 3-0, but after the Spireites kept applying pressure, two more goals came with Foster getting her third and Butterworth finding the back of the net again.

In the second half, Ripon came out the blocks and applied pressure on the Spireites who managed to stay organised and disciplined out of possession to try and keep the clean sheet intact.

Ripon’s striker got through and Carroll brought her down in the box and received a yellow card, Carroll then did well to save the resulting penalty.

The Spireites again kept up the momentum and the persistent pressure paid off with two more goals – another for Foster and one for Stafford.

Overall it was a well controlled and professional game.

Manager Andrea Parkinson said: “It was a fantastic performance today and all the players involved were outstanding.

“Even when Ripon applied pressure in the second half, we kept focused and stayed organised.

“It’s a performance we need to take into next week’s Derbyshire Cup game.”
