Chesterfield FC Women beat Buxton 5-0 this afternoon at the SMH Group Stadium.
It was a brilliant start for the Spireites, having plenty of chances, through Steph O’Brien, Lucy Graham, Amelia Holland and Hayley Hulme.
The Spireites were nearly caught on the break, but Rebecca Francis got back and did enough to put off the Buxton striker.
The deadlock was broken by the home side in the 36th minute. Faye Delaney, whose previous shot looked to have gone over the line, made sure with her next chance. A brilliant long-range shot hit the top corner to make it 1-0.
On the stroke of half-time, Graham put away a brilliant move by the Spireites. Holland raced down the left hand side, before laying the ball off to Tia Mcdonagh, who put Graham through to round the keeper and make it 2-0.
The second half started very much the same for the Spireites with Hulme having an effort on goal, within a minute of the restart, but it was just wide.
It didn’t take long for the hosts to add a third though. In the 47th minute, Mcdonagh fired the ball into the back of the net to make it 3-0.
Further chances came through Hulme and Maddie Watkinson, before Rhianne Carroll was called into action to make a brilliant save.
Delaney got her second and the Spireites’ fourth in the 77th minute, after Rebecca Boston put a good ball into the box.
O’Brien made it 5-0 ten minutes before the final whistle to secure a fifth placed finish for the Spireites.
