Defender signs on loan from Premier League club

Colombia international defender Devan Tanton has today joined the Spireites on a season-long loan from Fulham.

The 20-year-old right wing-back is looking forward to spending the 2024/25 campaign with Chesterfield. He said: “I’m very happy to get it over the line and to start training with the lads.

“I feel like I’ve done everything I could at academy level and it’s time to start progressing and getting professional minutes more consistently.”

Tanton, who has an American father and Colombian mother, was raised in Orlando, Florida, before moving to Spain. It was while playing for the United States U17s that he was scouted by Fulham, joining them in 2021.

He made his Fulham debut in their Carabao Cup tie against Ipswich Town last November following a loan spell at Walton & Hersham.

A month later, after switching his international allegiance to Colombia, Tanton came on as a substitute in their 1-0 victory over Venezuela.

The deal is subject to FA and Football League approval.
