Ahead of the Spireites’ home fixture against Oxford City, Liam Mandeville spoke about why the win over AFC Fylde at the weekend was an important one to the team.
Speaking exclusively to 1866 Sport, he said: “I think we had a kick up the backside with that [Dorking defeat]. It was probably what we need, I think we got a little bit complacent.
“The results haven’t been the best especially with the high standards we have set ourselves.
“It’s good to get back on track and I think it has refocused us a little bit.”
Oxford City currently occupy last place in the National League and face an uphill battle to stay up.
However, Mandeville believes that the Hoops can provide a real threat, as shown in the reverse fixture.
“They actually gave us, I would say, one of our toughest games of the season at their place.
“It was really tough. They’ve got loads of energy. They’re obviously down so they’ll be battling for their lives.
“They are always tough games, especially here – I feel like everyone steps up a little bit and brings their A-game. We’ll have to be on it,” Mandeville said.
This week could be a big one for Paul Cook’s squad as promotion to the EFL is within sight.
Mandeville sent a message to supporters, saying: “Just enjoy it and let’s be together in this moment. We’ve obviously been wating a long time for it.
“If we don’t get it done this week, it will be next week or the week after, but we’ll get it done.”
