Chesterfield Football Club are delighted to confirm the signing of central defender Jack Simpson, who joins the club on a two-year deal.
The 29-year-old joins Paul Cook’s side after a two-and-a-half year stint at Leyton Orient, having also played for Bournemouth, Rangers and Cardiff City during his career.
After getting the deal over the line, Simpson said: “I’m really excited to be joining the club. After speaking to the gaffer and a couple of other people at the club and I heard really positive things. The way the gaffer works and the direction of the clubs going forward in; I just can’t wait to get going.”
On what fans can expect to see, he added: “The club want to play progressive, positive football and I fit into that system. With my age now, I’m coming in to bring leadership too.
“I like to bring the ball forward and out from the back, playing direct but positive football. Most importantly of course – my defensive duties; I read the game quite well and of course try to keep the ball out of the net!”
Assistant manager Danny Webb said: “We’re bringing in a lad who is used to playing at League One level in recent seasons, which is exactly the level we’re all aiming to reach.
“He brings experience and sets high standards in training for both himself and his teammates and will be a hugely positive addition to our squad for the upcoming season.”
A full interview with Simpson will be available to watch on the club’s YouTube channel.
