Right-back Junior Eccleston has spoken exclusively to SpireitesTV to preview this weekend’s fixture against Rotherham United.
Firstly, Junior provided an update on how his start to life at Chesterfield has been, saying: “I’ve really enjoyed it. It’s been a big change for me, moving up by myself, but once I met all the players and the coaches, they made me feel really welcome which is good. And it’s just a great environment to come into every day.
“There’s a few of us that live in the same complex, which is good. We try and do stuff outside of football as well, like a bit of padel and stuff. It’s good to do stuff away from football as well.”
Eccleston also made his EFL debut in last weekend’s win at Salford. He added: “It was a really big achievement for me. I’m really proud and even happier to obviously see out the three points last Saturday. I really enjoyed it and hopefully many more to come.
“I think, personally, it’s a different environment for me. Chesterfield are obviously used to winning all the time. So, it was more of a case of, yeah, we won, but we’ve got to move on to the next one now. We were happy but all focus on Rotherham now.”
The 19-year-old also commented on competing with Remeao Hutton for the right-back slot. He explained: “It’s really good. It’s good competitive edge for both of us. He’s going to push me; I’m going to push him.
“He’s played a lot of games in the EFL so he’s somebody to obviously learn off. I’d say we have similar attributes as well. I’ve just got to keep learning every day and hopefully keep making more appearances.”
