Koroma signs on loan

Chesterfield Football Club are pleased to confirm the signing of Josh Koroma, who joins the Spireites on a season‑long loan from League One side Leyton Orient ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.

Koroma began his career at Leyton Orient before moving to Championship club Huddersfield Town where he spent six years, making 156 appearances and scoring 33 goals for the Terriers. During his time at Huddersfield, he enjoyed loan spells at Rotherham United and Portsmouth before returning to Leyton Orient in the summer of 2025.

Reflecting on the move, the 27-year-old said: “It’s something that’s been in the works for a while. I found out about it before pre-season started and as soon as I spoke to the gaffer, I was keen to get it done.”

Koroma explained how his conversation with manager Paul Cook helped shape his decision: “Paul Cook told me I’d come here and play to get the love back for football. He explained that I’d get the smile back on my face. He likes to get the ball to his wingers and pushes for attacking football, so it was a no-brainer for me.”

He shared what the fans can expect from him: “I am someone who’s going to try and unlock defences and cause problems. I’ll run back as much as possible and I’ll work hard and hopefully be the difference between winning and losing games”

Looked ahead at the 2026/27 campaign, Koroma added: “It’s a winning dressing room. Over the last two seasons, even though the club fell short, they have been successful because it’s not easy to get into the play-offs. Hopefully I can help us get promoted and I can’t wait to get going.”

Assistant manager Danny Webb expressed his excitement about the signing: “Josh is a player with top ability and has proven that with good records throughout the EFL and a lot of experience at Championship and League One level. He bolsters our attacking output and brings another element of quality to our forward options. We hope he will form a key part of this season’s squad.”
