Late winner gives Spireites victory

The Spireites secured a dramatic 3-2 win over FC Halifax Town at the SMH Group Stadium, making it five wins on the bounce for Paul Cook’s men.

First-half goals from Will Grigg and Tyrone Williams, and a dramatic stoppage-time winner from Joe Quigley meant that the Spireites took away all three points.

The Spireites took the lead in the second minute through Grigg. Liam Mandeville picked up the ball on the right-hand side and played it into the path of Grigg who slotted the ball away.

After taking the lead the Spireites continued to dominate the game, recycling possession well and keeping good pressure on Halifax.

The Spireites doubled their lead in the 23rd minute, following a set-piece. The ball was whipped in by Ryan Colclough and Williams rose the highest to head into the net.

Halifax pulled a goal back in the 26th minute. The ball was threaded through to Millenic Alli who calmly slotted the ball past Harry Tyrer.

The Spireites went into half time with a 2-1 lead.

Mandeville forced a great save from Sam Johnson after cutting in from the right-hand side and curling the ball towards goal.

Halifax were awarded a penalty when Tylor Golden was brought down in the box by Tom Naylor.

Luke Summerfield stepped up and slotted the ball into the right-hand corner, despite a strong hand on the ball from Tyrer.

Naylor was sent-off in the 76th minute after receiving a second yellow card.

Williams came close to another headed goal, following a set-piece, but his effort went wide.

Adam Senior was sent-off for Halifax in the 87th minute after a heavy tackle on James Berry.
