Paul Cook spoke exclusively to 1866+ to preview the fixture against Grimsby Town at the SMH Group Stadium on Tuesday evening.
Starting with final reflections from Saturday’s draw with Tranmere Rovers, Cook said: “I think the first thing from Saturday, more so than anything, is you’re just disappointed, just disappointed with how we play.
“Saturday was just a game where, off the back of three good wins, three solid wins in a division where any win’s hard, really, really tough, that I just didn’t enjoy watching us. You want to enjoy watching your team play.
“I think when you enjoy watching your team play 99% of the time, it’ll be all right. So, for me, that was the real disappointment. Not so much the result, because Tranmere deserved something out of the game.
“It was just us. And probably as you look back on the season, it’s been us all year. So, we go into the game tomorrow night, we’re unbeaten in a few games.
“We’re seventh in the league, and we know if we win tomorrow night, we won’t drop down any places. So, there’ll only be positive energy, positive vibes going into the game.”
Looking forward to the clash against a fellow play-off hopeful, Cook added: “It’s three points. I’m sure David Artell will be saying the exact same thing. It’s three points. But whoever wins tomorrow night is not in the playoffs. Whoever loses tomorrow night’s not out of them.
“Certainly, winning will help. For us, we understand what it means and what it brings. The lads are very much focused on the game and have total respect for Grimsby, as we have for every team.
“It’ll be a great atmosphere, Grimsby bring great support, we’ll have great support. It’s a game that I think everyone can look forward to.”
