‘Mandy’ pleased to be back among the goals

Liam Mandeville was delighted to score his first goal since October when he found the back of the net in Saturday’s 3-1 win at Eastleigh.

After scoring a goal which was sandwiched between strikes from James Berry and Will Grigg, Mandeville admitted that he has been disappointed with his return of six goals so far this season.

He said: “Kieron Dyer has been on to me to be scoring goals. It’s expected when you play in my position. My only excuse is that I did play a long time at right-back.”

Commenting on the goal, Mandeville said: “It was a brilliant ball from ‘Dobs’ and ‘Griggy’ was fuming with me. Thankfully it went in or I think Griggy would have killed me! He got one in the end, though.”

The 26-year-old feels that he is getting back on track after recovering from illness. “In the last few weeks, I’ve been finding my feet a little bit,” he added.

Looking ahead to Tuesday night’s game at Dagenham & Redbridge, Mandeville commented: “It’s a big one because it’s a game in hand. If we can win that one, we’re really sticking the dagger in.” The question is, was the pun intended?!
