After a 1-1 draw with ten-man Port Vale on Saturday, there’s a quick turnaround for the Spireites as they face Bromley at the SMH Group Stadium this evening.
After a 2-2 draw down south earlier in the season, Paul Cook’s men will be eager to claim all three points against the Ravens for the first time in the Football League.
Head-to-head
Following relegation to the National League in 2018, the Spireites have taken just four wins over Bromley in 14 matches, a figure they will be hoping to improve upon tonight.
Paul Cook has been Chesterfield manager for seven of those games and has earned three of the victories – the latest coming in late 2023 as his side defeated Bromley 2-0 at the SMH Group Stadium, thanks to goals from Tom Naylor and Joe Quigley.
Andy Woodman
A goalkeeper throughout his career, Woodman played for a host of different sides during his career, most notably making over 150 appearances for Northampton Town in the late 90s.
Woodman joined Bromley in 2021 after spells as goalkeeping coach at several Premier League clubs, including Arsenal.
He has had a successful spell at Hayes Lane so far after winning the FA Trophy and guiding the club to promotion from the National League alongside the Spireites, as they achieved promotion to the EFL for the first time in their history.
So far this season, Woodman’s men have remained hard to beat, losing just seven of their 26 League Two fixtures, two of which have been in their last three games.
Player-in-focus
The Spireites are no strangers to coming up against Michael Cheek, who has shown no sign of slowing up after entering the Football League
The 33-year-old has scored ten times in 14 appearances against Chesterfield and scored all three goals for the Ravens as they lost 4-3 in North Derbyshire last season, finding the net again earlier this season to cancel out Will Grigg’s first-half brace.
With 15 goals in all competitions so far this season, Cheek will be confident of adding to his tally by scoring against the Spireites once more.
