The Spireites will host Grimsby Town at the SMH Group Stadium on Tuesday evening in Sky Bet League Two action.
Chesterfield come into this one four games unbeaten, but off the back of a 1-1 draw against Tranmere Rovers.
Grimsby Town have four wins and a loss over their last five games and beat fellow Play-off pushers Crewe Alexandra 3-2 last time out.
In the Spotlight
Attacking midfielder Kieran Green has been a standout performer for the Mariners this season, scoring 13 goals and assisting four across all competitions this season.
Green set up Jaze Kabia’s recent winning goal against Fleetwood Town deep into injury time and scored a brace in a 5-0 win over Barrow in his very next game.
Last time out, Green scored in Grimsby’s 3-2 win over Crewe Alexandra. The 28-year-old is in his fourth season with Grimsby Town, joining in the Summer following their promotion back to the Football League from Halifax Town.
The gaffer’s record
Paul Cook has faced Grimsby seven times in his managerial career. In those games, Cook has won five, drawn once and lost once.
When coming up against Grimsby boss David Artell, Cook has won four times out of six meetings.
In the reverse fixture this season, Dilan Markanday’s goal saw the Spireites win 1-0 to take home all three points from the East Coast.
Man in the middle
Tom Reeves will take charge of this clash, assisted by Kenwyn Hughes, Timothy Walker and fourth official Daniel Robinson.
Reeves officiated the Spireites on two occasions last season. The first was the 5-2 win at Morecambe in October, followed by a loss at Tranmere’s Prenton Park in April 2025.
In 35 games this season, Reeves has given out 108 yellow cards, but just one red card.
Paul Cook’s thoughts
“It’s three points. I’m sure Dave will be saying the exact same thing. It’s three points. But whoever wins tomorrow night is not in the play-offs. Whoever loses tomorrow night’s not out of them.
“Certainly, winning will help. For us, we understand what it means and what it brings. Very much the lads are very much focused on the game and total respect for Grimsby, as we have for every team.
“It’ll be a great atmosphere, Grimsby bring great support, we’ll have great support. It’s a game that I think everyone can look forward to.”
