Match preview: Morecambe (h)

Today sees the Spireites play their last home game of the 2024/25 League Two season when they welcome Morecambe to the SMH Group Stadium.

Paul Cook’s side require a win to apply the pressure on those in and around the play-off places.

The visitors will arrive in Derbyshire having already had their relegation to the National League confirmed, after a 3-1 home defeat to Salford on Easter Monday.

Head-to-head

Since Morecambe joined the Football League back in 2002, the two teams have faced each other a total of 16 times.

The Shrimps have the upper hand in meetings with six wins to Chesterfield’s three. There have also been seven draws.

In the reverse fixture back in October, the scores were level at 2-2 going into the 75th minute. However, goals from James Berry, Armando Dobra and Jamie Grimes gave the Blues a convincing 5-2 win.

Manager – Derek Adams

The current Morecambe manager is in his third separate spell as manager of the club, having been with the Lancashire side between 2019-2021 as well as 2022-2023.

During the first spell, he guided the Shrimps to their first ever promotion to League One – beating Newport County in the League Two play-off final at Wembley Stadium.

Through his three spells, Adams has won 76 of the 220 matches he has taken charge at Morecambe.

The Scotsman has also managed Ross County (on three separate occasions), Plymouth Argyle and Bradford City.

Player-in-focus

Despite a very tough season, Ben Tollitt has shown his quality and currently sits as the joint top goalscorer at the club.

He has six goals in League Two, including one in the reverse fixture, and two in the FA Cup.

The former Tranmere Rovers, Wrexham, AFC Fylde and Oldham Athletic player can play on either wing, through the middle of attacking midfield and even up front.

Please note that the players. management and backroom staff will return to the pitch after the game to show their appreciation to the supporters.
