Match preview: Swindon Town (h)

The Spireites bring a close to November with a clash against fellow promotion contenders Swindon Town at the SMH Group Stadium.

Chesterfield missed out on the chance to move into the top three last weekend with a draw against Crewe Alexandra.

However, they could leapfrog the visitors with a win, who themselves could move to the top of the table with the three points.

In the Spotlight

Aaron Drinan has had a blistering start the campaign with 13 goals in 15 appearances in all competitions.
He is top of the Sky Bet League Two scoring charts with ten goals to his name – two ahead of Michael Cheek.
The 27-year-old mainly plays up top for Swindon but has also found himself playing as an attacking midfielder at times this term.

The gaffer’s record

Swindon Town has been somewhat of a bogey team to Paul Cook during his managerial career.
In his six meetings with the Robins, he has come out on top on just one occasion, drawing once and losing four times.
His only win against the Wiltshire-based outfit came in May 2021 – a 2-1 away victory with Ipswich Town.

Man in the middle

Jacob Miles has taken charge of five previous Chesterfield matches and two fixtures including Swindon Town.
He was the man in the middle for the away fixtures against Exeter City, in the FA Cup, and Cheltenham Town last season.
Overall, the referee has handed out 569 yellow card, 32 red cards and has awarded 44 penalties in 174 games.

Gary Roberts’ thoughts

“I think when you go through all the data, they’re probably similar to us in every metric, with possession, with pressing and how they play.
“They’ve got really good players in the team, and they will be at the top end of the league.
“We’re really looking forward to the game, we’re looking forward to being back at our place, at home, where there’ll be a big crowd.”
