Ronan Darcy has signed for the Spireites on a season-long loan from League One side Wigan Athletic, becoming the club’s ninth summer signing.
The attacking midfielder signed his first professional contract with Bolton Wanderers in 2018 after joining the academy in 2009.
In his four years as a professional with the club, he made 35 appearances, scoring two goals – and also had loan spells at Skelmersdale United, Sogndal and Queens Park.
He joined Wigan in January 2025 after making the move from Crawley Town, where he enjoyed a successful spell.
Darcy helped the club win promotion in the 2023/24 season from League Two via the play-offs.
Speaking to 1866+, he said: “I’m over the moon; it’s come round quite quick.
“With the way he (Paul Cook) wants to play and things like that, it suits me. I’m excited to be here.
“The gaffer said to enjoy my football and the style he plays is something that I enjoy. Hopefully he can bring the best out of me.”
