Maltese goalkeeper James Sissons has signed a professional contract with the Spireites after impressing for the academy during the 2025/26 campaign, penning a one-year deal.
A number of standout performances last season saw the 19-year-old named Academy Player of the Year at the club’s end of season awards evening. The season was rounded off nicely when he made his senior international debut for Malta after coming on as a substitute in their 2-0 away win over Azerbaijan in early June.
Sharing his thoughts having signed the deal, Sissons commented: “I’m happy and grateful to be a part of Chesterfield FC. I can’t wait to get to work, give my all for the badge and get started. I’m looking forward to what’s ahead.
“Having trained with the first-team goalkeepers numerous times last season, I’m delighted to have been the chance to step up permanently.
“Training alongside two established keepers on a daily basis will be great for my development as I look to get more minutes both domestically and for the club and internationally for Malta.”
