Maltese goalkeeper James Sissons has signed a professional contract with the Spireites after impressing for the academy during the 2025/26 campaign, penning a one-year deal.
A number of standout performances last season saw the 19-year-old named Academy Player of the Year at the club’s end of season awards evening. The season was rounded off nicely for the 20-year-old when he made his senior international debut for Malta after coming on as a substitute in their 2-0 away win over Azerbaijan in early June.
Sharing his thoughts having signed the deal, Sissons commented: “I’m happy and grateful to be a part of Chesterfield FC. I can’t wait to get to work, give my all for the badge and get started. I’m looking forward to what’s ahead.
“Having trained with the first-team goalkeepers numerous times last season, I’m delighted to have been the chance to step up permanently.
“Training alongside two established keepers on a daily basis will be great for my development as I look to get more minutes both domestically and for the club and internationally for Malta.”
