The Spireites were defeated 3-0 by Championship side Sheffield United at the SMH Group Stadium on Saturday.
Goals from Will Osula, Owen Hampson and Andre Dozzell secured victory for the visitors.
The Spireites had two big chances within the first five minutes. The first was a cut back from Ryheem Sheckleford which could not pick out Will Grigg in the middle and then Grigg was through on goal for the second and aimed for the near post, but his effort was off target.
Chey Dunkley’s last-ditch tackle on Oli Arblaster in the ninth minute prevented what looked to be a certain goal following Darren Oldaker’s misplaced pass in midfield.
Sheffield United opened the scoring through Osula after 20 minutes, converting first time from Andre Brooks’ low-driven cross from the right.
Osula could have doubled his tally just five minutes later but fired over from inside the box after a few different shots were blocked.
Ryan Boot was called into action to prevent Kieffer Moore from scoring a one-on-one, but the Spireites’ goalkeeper made an impressive block.
The visitors went into half time 1-0 up with thanks to Osula’s goal.
The first chance of the second half came after 63 minutes as Brooks, who already had an assist to his name, dragged his effort wide of Boot’s right-hand post from the edge of the box.
United doubled their advantage in the 78th minute as Hampson swung a corner goalwards which Boot had to save but Dozzell followed-up and fired home.
Hampson killed the game off in the 89thminute, scoring a third for the visitors after slotting past Boot in the Spireites’ goal.
