Spireites come from behind to draw

Chesterfield came from 2-0 down to secure a 2-2 draw at home to Crawley Town.

Dylan Duffy and Armando Dobra scored in the space of two second-half minutes to secure a point for Chesterfield after Harry McKirdy’s double had given the visitors a commanding 2-0 lead.

Paul Cook named an unchanged starting line-up from last Saturday’s 2-1 win away at Harrogate Town on an emotionally charged afternoon at the SMH Group Stadium.

It did not take long for the game to see its first goal, when Crawley opened the scoring in the ninth minute with their first meaningful attack.

A breakdown in communication between Kyle McFadzean and Zach Hemming gifted the ball to McKirdy, who rolled his finish into the empty net.

Duffy had an opportunity to draw the game level shortly after; however, his dangerous free kick whistled narrowly over the bar.

It was a tame response from the Spireites, who were still to test Harvey Davies, and in the 36th minute, Crawley doubled their advantage.

After a McFadzean foul on Kaheim Dixon in the area, McKirdy stepped up and fired his spot kick past Hemming to make it 2-0.

Less than two minutes into the second half, McKirdy was wheeling away in celebration of his hat-trick, but his joy was quickly cut short by the linesman’s flag.

Finally, the Spireites produced a moment of quality and grabbed a goal back through Duffy in the 56th minute.

The winger cut inside and curled an inch-perfect strike past the outstretched Davies.

Two minutes later, the game was all-square, thanks to Dobra.

A well-worked move fell to the attacker, who made no mistake from the centre of the box.

The quickfire double gave the home side the momentum as they pushed for a third.

Lee Bonis almost completed the turnaround with five minutes to play, but Davies got down well to save.

Immediately after Dixon was through one-on-one with Hemming after a direct pass over the top, however, the forward got the ball stuck under his feet before he could pull the trigger.

Despite a frantic ending, the points were shared.
