Spireites come from behind to draw

The Spireites scored an 86th minute equaliser to maintain their unbeaten home record with a 1-1 draw against MK Dons at the SMH Group Stadium.

Tom Naylor’s late header cancelled out a first half opener from Rushian Hepburn-Murphy.

Paul Cook made one change as John Fleck came in for Ryan Stirk. Jamie Grimes was recalled to the bench.

The away side created the first chance of the game in the eighth minute; Dan Crowley’s teasing cross was headed wide by Callum Paterson.

A few minutes later, Chesterfield got their first sniff of the MK Dons goal. Vontae Daley-Campbell received the ball at the back-post before sending a powerful shot into the side-netting.

His full-back partner in Lewis Gordon tried his best to break the deadlock, but his fierce shot was tipped over the crossbar by Craig MacGillivray.

The visitors took the lead in the 25th minute. The ball broke kindly for Hepburn-Murphy and the attacker squeezed the ball beyond Zach Hemming and into the back of the net.

That would be the only goal of the half with very few clear-cut chances being created.

The second half continued the theme of the first, with opportunities being few and far between.

Just before the hour-mark, Armando Dobra took aim for the edge of the area and fired the ball over the crossbar.

There were big appeals just a minute later from the home side as the ball appeared to strike the hand of an MK Dons defender. Referee Edward Duckworth was unmoved and signalled for play-on.

Devan Tanton and Will Grigg were soon brought on in place of Daley-Campbell and Lee Bonis.

Chesterfield continued to hunt for the coveted equaliser – Tanton’s off-course chipped cross landed on the roof of the net.

Dobra’s chipped cross in the 84th minute found McFadzean, but his volley cleared the crossbar.

Just two minutes later, Liam Mandeville’s corner was flicked on by Naylor, his header beat MacGillivray and found the net.

The Spireites continued to hunt for a winner but ran out of time as the game finished all-level.
