Spireites draw at Alfreton

The Spireites ended their away pre-season schedule with a 1-1 draw away at Alfreton Town.

Dylan Duffy had the first attempt at goal in the opening minute; his curling effort was claimed by George Willis.

Chesterfield looked in fine fettle as they hunted for the first goal. Dobra was denied twice in quick succession first by Willis and second by the Alfreton defence.

Devan Tanton did well to find space down the right-hand side before cutting the ball back for Duffy – his shot was deflected wide from the mark.

From the resulting corner, Markanday received the ball short before sending a teasing cross to the far post. Chey Dunkley rose highest and was denied by Willis before lashing the rebound into the back of the net.

On the 35th minute, Tanton took a tumble in front of the away dugout and had to be forced off with Vontae Daley-Campbell coming on.

Grigg had the final chance of the half as he latched onto Duffy’s cross but was thwarted by the Alfreton goalkeeper.

The Blues went into the break with the one-goal lead.

Early into the second half, Harrison Perritt almost brought the home side level with a ferocious volley that was batted away by Zach Hemming.

Chesterfield had chances to extend their advantage after that. Duffy had a goal chalked off before Grigg saw a couple of efforts go wide of the post.

Tom Naylor, Ryan Colclough and Lee Bonis all came on after the hour mark to add fresh legs on the pitch.

Lewis Gordon played a delicate through ball to Colclough, who brought the ball down before skewing his shot off target.

On the 78th minute, a long throw by Adam Lund fell for William Fewster and the midfielder fired past Hemming to level things up.

Chesterfield: Hemming, Tanton (Daley-Campbell 35), Dunkley (Butterfield 87), McFadzean (Grimes 87), Gordon (Lewis 87), Stirk, Fleck (Naylor 70), Markanday (Colclough 63), Duffy (Cook 87), Dobra (Elliott 87), Grigg (Bonis 87).
