Spireites end season with a win

The Spireites secured a dramatic 3-2 home victory over Maidenhead United in the final game of the National League season.

First-half goals from Liam Mandeville and Joe Quigley gave the Spireites a half-time lead. Maidenhead levelled the game in the second half, but a rocket from Ollie Banks gave the Spireites all three points.

Paul Cook made four changes from the side that lost to Gateshead with Jeff King, Miguel Freckleton, Darren Oldaker and Michael Jacobs having come into the starting eleven.

Tom Naylor had the Spireites’ first shot of the game, with a side-footed effort from the edge of the box, but his effort went over the bar.

Tristan Abrahams forced a good save from Harry Tyrer at his near post, after he latched onto a through ball over the top of the Spireites defence.

The Spireites took the lead in the 29th minute. Joe Quigley won the ball inside the box and pulled it back to Liam Mandeville, who calmly slotted the ball into the bottom corner.

The Spireites doubled their lead soon after, in the 31st minute. After providing the earlier assist, this time it was Armando Dobra who found Quigley on the edge of the six-yard box, who was there to slot the ball home.

The Spireites went into halftime with a 2-0 lead.

Maidenhead pulled a goal back in the 52nd minute through Abrahams. Reece Smith’s deflected effort fell into the path of Abrahams, who placed the ball into the back of the net.

It wasn’t long before Maidenhead equalised in the 55th minute. The ball was nodded back across goal, following a freekick, and Kevin Lokko was there to head the ball in from a couple of yards out.

Craig Ross pulled off a fantastic save, following a short-range effort from Dobra.

The Spireites came agonisingly close to regaining the lead when Quigley laid off Dobra with a back heel, but Dobra’s subsequent effort hit the post.

The Spireites took the lead in the 89th minute. Substitute Ollie Banks picked the ball up on the edge of the box and unleashed a powerful effort that found its way into the bottom left corner.

Attention will now turn to next season as the Spireites make their return to the Football League.
