The Spireites are pleased to confirm the signing of Junior Eccleston from Sutton United, with the young defender signing a contract until summer 2029.
Eccleston came through Sutton United’s academy and broke into the first team during the 2024/25 campaign, however he spent most of that season on loan at Walton & Hersham.
The 19-year-old signed his first professional deal ahead of the 2025/26 season and became a regular part of the team with 45 appearances across all competitions, ending the campaign with the young player of the season award.
In Eccleston’s own words about joining the Spireites: “I’m really happy to get it done. I heard Chesterfield were interested at the start of the year, and from then they’ve constantly been in contact with my agent, and it feels nice that they’ve been interested and I can’t wait to get going.
“I came through the academy at Sutton United in the U16s and I spent a two-year scholarship there. Last season, I had my first professional year, which at the start of the season I was in and out of the squad, but a new gaffer came in, and I managed to finish the season with 45 games. I really enjoyed my time there.
“Speaking to Paul Cook for the first time, I can really see his ambition for the upcoming season. The plan for me is to play as many games as possible and help the team. I can’t wait to put the shirt on and play in front of these fans.”
Assistant manager, Danny Webb, added: “We are delighted about Eccleston joining us on a three-year deal. He is a young defender who offers real hunger and physical presence to the squad. He adds great character and a positive attitude to the group, along with a high level of energy in his performances. Having played regularly last season, he’s well prepared to make the step up to League Two.”
This deal is subject to relevant approvals.
