Thrilling victory over Southend

The Spireites came back from a 2-1 deficit to secure a 3-2 win over Southend United at the Technique Stadium. Goals from Jack Clarke, Joe Quigley and Jeff King gave the Spireites all three points.

Southend had the first opportunity in the game after winning the ball high up the pitch. Dan Mooney broke away from the defence but put his effort wide.

Quigley tried his luck from the edge of the area, however his shot curled wide of the post.

Jamie Grimes struck the bar for the Spireites after getting a foot to the ball during a goalmouth scramble, following a corner.

The Spireites had a goal disallowed for offside when Calvin Miller found Quigley in with a cross from the left-hand side.

However, the linesman deemed Miller to be in an off-side position when he received the ball.

The Spireites took the lead in the 19th minute. Liam Mandeville drove into the box from the right-hand side and pulled it back to Clarke, who set himself and struck the ball past the keeper.

Southend equalised in the 33rd minute through Callum Powell. Powell struck the ball into the bottom left corner from just inside the penalty area.

Mandeville came close for the Spireites towards the end of the first half when his attempt from inside the box was deflected wide for a corner.

Ollie Banks was sent-off late in the first half for a tackle on Gus Scott-Morriss.

The Spireites went into half time level with the score 1-1.

Southend took the lead in the 46th minute after the ball found Marcus Dackers in the penalty area, who drilled the ball into the bottom right corner.

Southend had a chance to double their advantage after the ball was pulled back to Powell in the box, however his first-time attempt flew over the bar.

The Spireites found an equaliser in the 63rd minute. Quigley drove down the middle towards the Southend defence, got the ball onto his left foot and buried it in the bottom corner from the edge of the box.

King struck the winner  in the 69th minute with a spectacular strike from around 25 yards. King cut inside onto his left foot and struck the ball into the top left corner, hitting the underside of the bar as it went in.
