Victory for Under-17s

The Under 17s convincingly saw off Tamworth FC’s Under 19s 3-0 in the National League

Cup on Wednesday.
Goals from Dylan Hinman, Prince Agyemang and Ewan McGawn saw the Spireites earn
their place in the next round.
Despite a quiet opening 45 minutes, Chesterfield did snatch the lead just before the break.
Kian Gillen crossed the ball into the box, and Hinman was on hand to head home the opener.
Halfway through the second half, the advantage was doubled. McGawn found Agyemang
down the right-hand side. The forward cut inside and unleashed a strike that was too
powerful for the goalkeeper, and the ball bounced over the line.
The victory was sealed with ten minutes to go. Agyemang returned the favour by supplying
an assist. Despite going out wide, after being slipped through by Agyemang, McGawn was
able to side-foot the ball through the goalkeeper’s legs to put Chesterfield out of sight.
Goalscorer McGawn said: “The performance was very strong. We nullified all threat in the
first half and became more comfortable in the second. Eventually the goals started coming.”
On his neat finish to secure the victory, McGawn said: “It was very satisfying, especially
when I was playing up front as well.
“Obviously there were two goals before me, so to get one myself was icing on the cake and it
was the perfect end.”
McGawn was optimistic about the rest of his own season along with the team’s potential
cup run. He said: “Individually, as long as I keep working hard, there is no reason I should not
be able to perform at the same level or higher.
“The same goes for the team. As long as we work hard and keep concentration in games, we
can maintain this winning form.”
