‘We are in good form as are they’

Danny Webb gave his thoughts on Woking ahead of the Spireites’ televised away fixture on Saturday.

Speaking to the media, he said: “[Woking] are our main rivals at this time – we wish it was Wrexham and Notts County but it’s sadly not to be. That can change very quickly in football.

“We’ve got to go there and use this recent form, I’m not a massive believer in form. We’d obviously rather go there four unbeaten than four without a point.

“We are in good form as are they. It should be a real good fixture for those watching at home on the telly.

“Whatever the performance, we want to come home with the three points.”

There are nine games left of the regular season before teams can start to think about the play-offs.

Places are yet to be decided as well and Webb spoke about the race for third, saying: “Fair play to Notts and Wrexham because they are probably going to break the 100-point mark. We can’t worry about them anymore. That’s football – you’ve got to move on.

“We’ve got to think about our next target and our next achievement. The manager has said all along that he wants to finish third, once top and second was out of the question.

“We’ve also got to realise that there are teams below hunting us down. We’ve got to hunt Woking down, but we are being hunted as well.

“The race is far from run but we’ve got to give ourselves the best chance of winning that race.”

Webb gave an update on any knocks or injuries ahead of Saturday’s crucial clash with Woking.

He said: “Paul McCallum got a swollen ankle at Wealdstone the other night. That swelling has gone down. We’ll assess him today and he’ll travel down to Woking.

“[Armando] Dobra is back in training today. Whether it will be a game too soon for him, time will tell.”
