Women’s team set to face Belper

Chesterfield FC Women are back in action this weekend, making the short journey to Belper Town.

Manager Andrea Parkinson gave her thoughts ahead of the game, saying: “We’ve done a lot of reflection over the last few weeks, we’ve watched some clips of the games against Gainsborough and we’re thankful to them for sending the video link.

“In training we’ve been working on a high press, looking at where we press to make sure we can try and win the ball back high up the pitch.

“It should mean more chances to get shots off and more opportunities in dangerous areas.”

Before the game against Belper this weekend, Andrea reflected on the reverse fixture in which her side narrowly lost 2-1.

“It was a narrow defeat. I think their winning goal was from a defensive mistake and we had a lot of opportunities. It was in the period of the season where we weren’t scoring many goals.

“Going into this weekend’s game, the confidence is high, training was really good on Tuesday and we focused on what we think will win the game on Sunday.

“If we can close that gap to teams above us and pick up nine points from our final three games, it should move us up two or three places in the league, which would be a really good reflection on where we’re trying to get to.

“It’s about 40 minutes from the SMH Group Stadium, the postcode is DE56 1BA and it’s a 2pm kick-off.

“It’s free entry and the weather should be nice, so please consider coming to watch the women who are playing fairly locally.”
