“It certainly won’t be easy”

Spireites left-back Branden Horton spoke with 1866 Sport ahead of Saturday’s clash with Southend United.

He began by reflecting on the 4-2 win over Barnet, saying: “It was great to get the win.

“We were ready for the game but Barnet certainly caused us problems.

“They really took the game to us in the first-half and fair play to them they were playing some lovely football.

“We came out second half and showed them what we can do.

“We’re full of confidence at the minute.

“It’s massive for our confidence but it means nothing really.

“There’s a long way to go so we’re not getting ahead of ourselves; we’ve got to keep the momentum going and keep winning.

“We’ve won nothing yet and we’re fully focused on Southend now.”

He also spoke on his recent upturn in form.

“I’m full of confidence at the minute,” he said.

“I feel like I’m playing some of the best football I’ve played and definitely the best football I’ve played in my time here.

“I put it all down to confidence and a run in the team.

“There are two fantastic left-backs right behind me, ready to step in at any moment.

“So, I’ve got to be on my game and I feel I’m doing that.

“I’m loving it, I’m loving playing right now.

“Sometimes all you need is a bit of confidence and a run in the team to turn your form around and I feel that’s what’s done it for me.

“I know I’ve got to stay on my toes though.”

Finally, Horton previewed the trip to Southend and had a message to the supporters.

He said: “It’s going to be a very tough game.

“Southend is always a tricky place to go; they have a fantastic side.

“It’s a long journey and it’s certainly won’t be an easy game.

“They’ll be well up for it and they’ll want to cause an upset.

“We’re just approaching the game exactly like we approach any other, we just focus on ourselves and do what we do best.

“The supporters have been fantastic this season, fair play to anyone making the journey down there.

“Get behind us and let’s hope we can bring three points home for them.”
